Our Homebuilding Mission
Serving Just Across the Border
Just south of San Diego, in the city of Tijuana, Mexico, families face daily struggles that are difficult for many of us to imagine. With over 1.3 million residents, nearly half live on less than $200 a month. For these families, owning a safe, secure home often feels out of reach.
The Cost of Land and the Reality of Shelter
Land in Mexico can cost between $15,000–$25,000 for a modest-sized lot. After purchasing land, most families have little to no money left to build. Makeshift homes—pieced together from tarps, pallets, garage doors, and scrap material—are far too common in the communities we serve.
How Families Are Selected
We work hand-in-hand with local partners to identify families in greatest need. Each applicant is carefully evaluated based on:\
• Income level
• Family size and dependents
• Current living conditions
• Employment and long-term stability
• How transformative a new home would be for them
Applications are reviewed by a selection committee that prioritizes those most vulnerable at the time of evaluation.
Building Homes, Creating Hope
Since 1988, Project Mexico & St. Innocent Orphanage has constructed hundreds of weather-tight, secure homes—built entirely by volunteers. These homes provide more than shelter. They offer stability, dignity, and a fresh start.
Powered by Volunteers, Transformed by Service
Over 15,000 volunteers have joined us at our 16-acre mission base to serve families in need. In giving of themselves, they often discover that the experience is as transformative for them as it is for the families they serve. Together, we build more than homes—we build hope, faith, and community.
