Website Errors

Question:

I received an error message while waiting for a page to load on your Web site. What does the error message mean? Is it a problem with your Web site or with my computer?

Answer:

Occasionally, an error will be displayed while you (the user) are trying to view a page, make a donation, or download a document.  Please accept our apologies if this just occurred. We are providing the error explanations below to increase awareness when this happens. In addition to checking through the error messages below, we encourage you to make a second attempt at viewing the page or signing up, etc. within an hour's time. If the problem persists, please send us a message.  You may also want to contact Project Mexico by phone to make your donation. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Error Message Definitions

400 Bad Request

Due to possible programming code errors, the server* could not understand the request. The user should not repeat the request without refreshing the page or changing the search criteria. If the error persists, please contact us and copy and paste the error message into the body of the email.

401 Unauthorized

The user is not authorized to access this site. This feature requires user authentication (i.e., a password).

403 Forbidden

The server* understood the request, but is refusing to fulfill it. Authorization will not help and the request should not be repeated. The server* may describe the reason for the refusal in the error message.

404 Not Found

The server* has not found anything matching the web address (URL) requested. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent. Note: This status code is commonly used when the server* does not wish to describe the reason for the refusal in the error message (see 403 Forbidden), or when no other response is applicable.

408 Request Timeout

The user did not respond or the page did not load within the time the server* was prepared to wait. The user may repeat the request without modifications at any time.

409 Conflict

The request could not be completed due to a conflict. The error message should include enough information for the user to recognize the source of the conflict. Note: Ideally, the error message would include enough information for the user or user's computer to fix the problem; however, that might not be possible.

410 Gone

The requested resource is no longer available at the server* and no forwarding address is known.

415 Unsupported Media Type

The server* is refusing to respond to the request because the page format is not supported by the server*.

500 Internal Server* Error

The server* encountered an unexpected condition, which prevented it from fulfilling the request.

501 Not Implemented

The server* does not support the functionality required to fulfill the request.

503 Service Unavailable

The server* is currently unable to handle the request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server*. Note: The implication is that this is a temporary condition, which will be alleviated after some delay.

All Other Errors

Please email us with a copy of all other errors (especially ColdFusion or CF errors). While we cannot notify you when the issue has been resolved, we appreciate your taking the time to bring this to our attention — giving us the opportunity to correct, as efficiently as possible, any errors caused by our servers.
