Project Mexico

Since 1988, Project Mexico has been involving young people in the alleviation of suffering by building homes for Mexico's poor. Hundreds of homes have been built for needy families with the help of nearly 10,000 volunteers. In 1996 our outreach expanded through the opening of St. Innocent Orthodox Orphanage in Tijuana which provides a home for teenage boys who live on the streets or who have been put out of other orphanages. Check our postings to get involved with Project Mexico.

Christmas in Mexico!

Dear Supporters,

It is already that time of year again where we will be soon entering into the Nativity fast and the Christmas season. For us here at Project Mexico it means that we have to start coordinating the Christmas celebration for our 27 boys! As you may have heard, we recently received seven new boys. These boys come from various backgrounds, but all of them have one thing in common – they have never had a Christmas. Turkey, Presents, a tree… these are all new items to our boys. Needless to say, even the mention of Christmas gets them excited as only a seven year-old can be!

We have a program called Santa’s Helpers where we ask our supporters to donate specific items for each of our boys. People, groups, or parish will have a specific boy that they are providing some or all of the Christmas gifts for. It is a wonderful way for you to be connected with our boys and for the boys to receive a true Christmas with the love and support of their “brothers”.

If you would like sponsor one of our boys or renew your sponsorship, please contact Soula De la Riva at soula@projectmexico.org or by phone at 619-426-4610. She will send you specific lists and sizes for your sponsored boy.

Thank you very much and God bless you!

Building Hope - In Us! -- The new article about Project Mexico on the OCA website!

After spending 34 hours in a caravan with 25 other people from Colorado, I arrived at Project Mexico during the big OBT(Orthodox Basic Training) session. Starting out the week I had the assumption that I was there to give to others, show them hope, service and love. This has been my goal, having been on countless mission trips. As the week passed I was surprised to notice my many faults, and selfish tendencies, and realized that I had so much to learn and receive.

10 homes and 2 OBTs complete!

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; color: black;">After the past three weeks of hard work, both sessions of OBT have ended and 10 new homes are built in Mexico! Project Mexico and St. Innocent Orphanage hosted roughly 150 people for OBT's 1st session June 22-28, and 110 for the 2nd session July 6-12. Volunteers came from a variety of places including New York, Illinois, Ohio, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Indiana, Massachusetts, Canada and more! Each Orthodox Basic Training session gave participants a unique experience to build a home in an impoverished area of Mexico, and unite with other Orthodox Christians from across the country while doing so.
